CORONAVIRUS STIMULUS PAYMENT ARRIVING FOR SOME AS PREPAID DEBIT CARD IN PLAIN ENVELOPE
Citizens expecting a coronavirus stimulus payment will need to keep a close eye on what is in their mailbox, as their payment might come in plain sight.
Tuesday, the IRS announced that nearly four million people are being sent their Economic Impact Payment via prepaid debit card, rather than a paper check. These cards will arrive in a plain envelope issued from Money Network Cardholder Services.
Media reports have indicated that some card recipients may have thrown them away or even shredded them, thinking they were a scam.
Recipients can tell if the card is legitimate by checking the front and back of the card; the front will have the VISA logo, while the back will have name of the issuing bank, MetaBank. The card will come with additional documentation to explain that it is an Economic Impact Payment card, along with instructions on how to activate and use it.
Many have already received Economic Impact Payments via direct deposit or a paper check, with the prepaid debit cards going out recently. The cards are being sent to some individuals without bank account information on file with the IRS.

The card is welcome. We are wondering about ours. Haven’t received any money yet. Thank you for helping us receive ours.
