Just a few weeks after reopening to the public, the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site is closing again, this time due to storm damage.

As a result of Wednesday afternoon’s heavy storms and the resulting aftermath, the site, including the Star of the Republic Museum, will be closed until further notice.  The complex will be reopened when the site is deemed safe for visitors.

Wednesday’s storms hit the north and northeastern portions of Washington County the hardest, knocking down trees, damaging structures, and blocking roadways.

The site had reopened on May 1st to limited capacity, after being closed since April 7th in accordance with Governor Greg Abbott’s previous executive orders pertaining to COVID-19.
