USDA ANNOUNCES DETAILS OF CORONAVIRUS FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR FARMERS
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced details of federal assistance for farmers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP).
The CFAP, according to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, will provide up to $16 billion in direct payments to deliver relief to America’s farmers and ranchers that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box program is partnering with regional and local distributors—whose workforces have been impacted by the closure of restaurants, hotels, and other food service entities—to purchase $3 billion in fresh produce, dairy, and meat and deliver boxes to Americans in need.
The USDA, through the Farm Service Agency, is now also accepting applications from agricultural producers who have suffered losses. Applications will be accepted through August 28th. Additional information and application forms are available online at https://farmers.gov/cfap.
