The series was started last year in an effort to showcase students’ talents within the welding industry and with potential employers, and to provide opportunities for students to earn prizes and scholarships.
Although some of the 12 competitions were cancelled due to COVID-19, students from around the state competed in one hosted by the Blinn College Hodde Center and Brenham FFA in October.
Several students earned top spots based on the point system used to determine overall winners in each division: Welding 1, 2, and 3; Cutting; and Tool Identification and Safety.
Jayden Ladewig earned second place in Cutting, Travis Sallach took sixth in Cutting and Tool Identification and Safety, Justin Majewski placed seventh in Welding 1, and Luis Delgadillo finished 11th in Welding 2.
FFA Advisor Colby Finke said these students all worked hard to compete against 200 to 400 other students. He said their placement in the top overall standings “really says something”.
