NEW CHARGE FILED IN A&M STUDENT’S DEATH

A new charge has been filed against an 18-year-old Bryan man, accused of killing a Texas A&M student with his vehicle last year.

Pedro Damian Puga has been indicted on a charge of manslaughter, in the death of 19-year old Carly Beatty of Frisco, on the morning of September 15th of last year.

Police say Puga struck Beatty near the corner of Texas Avenue and University Drive, then fled the scene, abandoned his car and attempted to flee police.

Authorities say Beatty was walking home with her friends when she was struck.  She was a sophomore in the veterinarian program at Texas A&M.

The grand jury had previously indicted him on other charges including a second-degree accident involving death and third-degree tamper/fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair.  According to prosecutors, those charges are still pending.

According to online jail records, Puga remains in custody at the Brazos County Detention Center.
