BLINN’S VIRTUAL LIVESTOCK JUDGING CAMP DRAWS 92 PARTICIPANTS

Blinn College’s Agricultural Sciences Department hosted a successful virtual livestock judging camp.

The change in the event still drew 92 participants, which is normally at the Brenham Campus each summer, but was shifted to online due to COVID-19.

According to Livestock Judging Coach Brice Mund, the event was “a tremendous success.” He said a cap of 75 students was originally put into place, but the cap was raised because of high interest. He also said that the event being held online allowed the college to reach more youths than it has previously.

The camp hosted participants from nine different states and included virtual tours of W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex, a new 6,000 square foot building for the Agriculture Sciences Program, as well as the entire Brenham Campus.

To host the camp, Blinn partnered with Judge 2 Win, a company owned by a Blinn Livestock Judging alumnus that provides online livestock judging training tools.

Mund said the response from participants was positive and hopes that next year students can return to campus for camp, but knows that the virtual capability gained through the camp will allow for it to continue if needed.

The camp featured two sessions - one for novices and one for experienced judges. The winners can be seen below:
