WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS PRAISE LOCAL EMS MEMBERS FOR HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS

The Washington County Commissioners Court praised members of Washington County EMS for their efforts during Hurricane Hanna at its session today.

The EMS members are a part of the 80-person Texas A&M Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) and have been assisting in hurricane relief in the Corpus Christi area. The team helped save three people from two different boats around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Commissioners applauded the TX-TF1 as a whole, but took time to highlight all of the county’s members. EMS Director Kevin Deramus led all six teams that were on site during the relief effort.

Commissioner Joy Fuchs said it is amazing that local emergency responders are assisting in other areas of the state. Commissioner Kirk Hanath thanked other commissioners for allowing local emergency responders to participate in TX-TF1 and mentioned that Washington County will continue to help all Texans, knowing that other areas will respond in the same way if a disaster were to arise in the county.

Also approved in today’s court was the purchase of two new audio systems for county buildings.

A new audio system will be purchased for the District Courtroom, complete with 8 wireless microphone stations and new speakers. This system will cost a little more than $1,300. Another new audio system will be purchased for the Washington County Annex, complete with 6 speakers, a microphone at each of the commissioner’s seat, and one at the speaking podium. This system will cost around $700.

Also at today’s meeting:

·      Commissioners approved a resolution certifying that the county has granted funds to the Washington County Healthy Living Association (WCHLA), approving WCHLA’s accounting system and fiscal agent, in order for WCHLA to be eligible to receive funds from the Texas Department of Agriculture Home-Delivered Meal Grant Program.

·      Commissioners approved the installation of a 2” road bore at 17157 Sweed Road.

·      Commissioners were presented with nine monthly reports, including the Environmental Health report that detailed more than 26,000 pounds of waste removed from illegal dumpsites in the month of June. Around 20,000 pounds of that were roofing shingles in trash bags dumped in a creek.
