SOMERVILLE NAMES FORMER DPS OFFICIAL INTERIM POLICE CHIEF

The City of Somerville has named a new interim police chief.

Otto Arnim

Last week, the Somerville City Council unanimously approved the hiring of retired DPS Lieutenant Otto Arnim.  Arnim began his work with the city on Monday, and will serve until the city hires a permanent replacement for former chief Craig Wise, who retired at the end of July.

Arnim, who served in DPS as a trooper, officer, and narcotics agent, also recently ran for Uvalde County Sheriff, but lost in July’s Republican primary runoff election with 47 percent of the vote.  He was recommended by the city’s consultant, Texas First Group of Leakey.

Somerville City Administrator Danny Segundo said he and the council plan to begin interviewing permanent candidates next week, after the city received ten resumes for the position as of Tuesday.  He said the city will likely choose three to four finalists to interview, but may open up the final stage to six candidates.
