IOLA ISD SHUTS DOWN HIGH SCHOOL AFTER STUDENTS TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Iola ISD has closed its high school for deep cleaning after reporting several confirmed cases of COVID-19 in students, and cancelled varsity football games for the next two weeks.

On Thursday, the district announced it would close the secondary campus beginning today (Friday) for deep cleaning, after reporting three cases in students on Tuesday and an additional case on Thursday.

The initial three students were last on campus on Friday, August 21st, while the fourth student was last at school on Thursday.  All areas of the campus that were heavily used by these students will be closed off and sanitized using “hospital grade disinfectant”, and anyone who came into close contact with them will be contacted directly.

Students and staff who came into close contact will not be allowed to return to school until they complete a 14-day quarantine from the date of last exposure.

No instruction will take place today.  All secondary students will be required to log in to remote learning next Monday through Friday, with face-to-face learning expected to resume Tuesday, September 8th, after Labor Day.

Students who need a device for remote learning can schedule an appointment to pick one up by contacting school administrators.

While the varsity football games and today’s volleyball games have been cancelled, the district says junior high football and all other volleyball activities will continue as scheduled.  The elementary school will continue operating as normal.
