BURTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES FINAL ADOPTION OF TAX RATE
The Burton City Council gave final approval for the city’s tax rate for the new fiscal year at a teleconference meeting Tuesday.
After a public hearing in which no one spoke, the council approved final adoption of a rate of 50 cents per $100 valuation, the same rate as last year.
The allocation of the rate is slightly different from 2019; this year’s rate consists of 10.25 cents for maintenance and operations (M&O) and 39.75 cents for debt service (I&S), while last year’s rate was made up of 10 cents for M&O and 40 cents for I&S.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council approved a series of items all related to the city’s application process for the General Land Office’s (GLO) Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) program. The council passed a resolution authorizing a grant application to the GLO, adopted a citizen participation plan policy for the grant programs, approved a financial management policy, and adopted a procurement policy and procedures.
The program administers funds to communities affected by storm events in recent years. The funds can be used to build and implement structural and non-structural projects, programs, and partnerships to reduce the risks and impacts of future natural disasters.
The council also approved:
- The 2019-20 Fiscal Year audit as presented by Medack and Oltmann, LLP.
- The hiring of Schneider Consulting Services to provide code compliance services.
- The choosing of incumbent candidates for election to the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool Board of Trustees and authorize and direct the mayor of Burton to execute the official ballot.
