IOLA ISD SUSPENDING REMOTE LEARNING

Iola ISD is making the switch into in-person learning only.

In a press release last week, Iola ISD Superintendent Scott Martindale announced the suspension of remote learning effective Friday, October 16th.

Martindale said remote learning has been a suggested response to those worried about returning to school due to COVID-19.  He added, however, that after reviewing data from the first six weeks of classes, it became apparent that this approach “has not been successful for most students.”

All students enrolled in the district must begin attending on-campus instruction on Monday, October 19th, but students can return before then if they choose to.

Martindale said the only students exempt from returning to campus are students who are instructed to quarantine by the school district or a public health official due to close contact exposure, a positive test result of COVID-19, or students with documented medical concerns.  He said the district will revisit the remote learning option if it starts to see health concerns develop.

Martindale said the district strongly believes face-to-face instruction is the best option for all students, but will discuss alternatives with parents and guardians if they have concerns related to COVID-19 and the safety of their children.
