CUBS DROP GRIZZLIES IN DISTRICT OPENER

The Brenham Cubs picked up their first win of the season at just the right time—their District 13/5A opener.

The Cubs (1-2/1-0) traveled to Leander and came away with a 35-14 win over the Glenn Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies (1-2/0-1) took the opening kickoff and marched down the field on a six-minute drive that ended when Eric Hemphill picked off a pass and raced 72 yards for the touchdown.

The Cubs extended the lead when quarterback Stephen Stackhouse hit Cameron Richardson on a 49-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead.

The Grizzlies cut the lead to 14-7 just before halftime, then tied the game up early in the third quarter.

But the Cubs regained the lead on a 12-yard scoring pass from Stackhouse to Richardson.

Brenham put the game away with two touchdown runs from J’sin Lopez of two and 10 yards.

Running back Javon Dixon finished with 156 yards rushing on 12 carries, while Stackhouse was 11-of-26 for 146 yards and two scores, and Richardson had three receptions for 96 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Next up, the Cubs will host Eastview, next Friday night at 7:00 at Cubs Stadium, the pre-game show can be heard beginning at 6:30 on AM-1280 KWHI, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com.
