WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS RECOGNIZE ELECTION OFFICIALS WITH PROCLAMATION

Local election officials were recognized for their work during the November 3rd general election by Washington County Commissioners Tuesday.
Commissioners proclaimed November 10, 2020 as Election Hero Day, in honor of election administrators and others who worked to ensure the election ran safely and smoothly.
County Clerk Beth Rothermel said this election was “one for the record books” with huge turnout, but also called it “the hardest one” in her 26 years as county clerk. She said an election of this magnitude required all hands on deck due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the political climate, but her staff, as well as other employees assisting during the election, were up to the task.
Each of the commissioners also congratulated Rothermel and election staff on the strong turnout, and thanked them for their efforts to keep voters safe.
Unofficial results from the election show 17,524 voters cast ballots in total, including 12,909 early voters, 2,934 voters on Election Day, and 1,681 absentee voters. Rothermel said there are 24,029 registered voters in the county, so that total means 73 percent of voters participated in the election.
Election results are considered unofficial until they are canvassed by commissioners.
