GIDDINGS ISD TO END REMOTE LEARNING

Starting next semester, Giddings ISD will require all students to return to on-campus instruction.

On Friday, the district announced it will end remote learning across all campuses effective at the conclusion of the first semester, which ends this Friday, December 18th.  Face-to-face instruction will be required beginning January 5, 2021.

In a letter sent to families with remote students, Giddings ISD Superintendent Roger Dees said the district currently has 90 percent of students back on campus and learning in-person.  He said data from the first semester indicates a “large majority” of the district’s remote learners are not successful, adding that the data supports the “overwhelming consensus that the most successful environment to educate students is face-to-face.”

The district will continue to provide temporary remote instruction for students who have tested positive for COVID-19 or who are required to quarantine due to contact tracing or close contact.  It will also provide temporary remote instruction for special education students or students with disabilities whose accommodations call for remote instruction, and for students who have received a medical certification from their doctor.

Families who do not wish for their students to return to on-campus instruction will need to either enroll with an online school or private school, switch to home school, or transfer to a district that offers remote learning.  They can also submit a medical certification exemption or request a transition meeting with the district.
