Faith Mission, an extension unit of the Salvation Army, says there has been a significant decrease nationwide in volunteers and donations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pam Mossbarger, Faith Mission Client Services Director and the coordinator of the bell ringing campaign in Brenham, says the local response usually exceeds what is seen nationwide, but due to concerns about COVID-19 and close contact, the organization is down about a third of its normal giving totals.
All donations to the Red Kettle remain in Washington County to assist residents with their needs.
There are still slots available between now and Thursday for bell ringers. Volunteers can sign up for four two-hour time slots beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m., except on Thursday, which will only have slots open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
No more than three people can sign up at each entrance per time slot. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided for all participants.
To volunteer, visit www.faithmission.us, or call the Bell Cell Hotline at 979-421-3640.
