2020 RECAP: BURTON MAYOR DAVID ZAJICEK

Burton Mayor David Zajicek listens to proceedings during the Burton City Council's meeting December 8th.

As we move into 2021, KWHI continues to talk with officials in Washington County and discuss the events of 2020 with them.

Next up is Burton Mayor David Zajicek, who talked with us about what he believed were the city’s biggest challenges and accomplishments of the year.

Zajicek said the city had several positives to take away from 2020, including the opening of the new Los Patrones Mexican Grill, repairs made to local roads, and new opportunities for high-speed internet.

While COVID-19 certainly had a negative effect on the city, Zajicek believes the city was able to avoid the worst of its impact.

Zajicek said work will carry on in 2021 to get a new water well, and hopes to continue repairing roads and replacing water lines.  In addition, there is also a new business prospect in the works.

Zajicek has served as Burton’s mayor since 2017 after defeating previous mayor Peggy Felder in the May 2017 election.  He was unopposed in his bid for reelection in 2019, but announced Wednesday that he will not seek another term in office.
