UNITY THEATRE POSTPONES PRODUCTION OF ‘BEN BUTLER’

Unity Theatre in Brenham has postponed its upcoming production of “Ben Butler” by Richard Strand.

Unity Theatre Executive Artistic Director Kate Revnell-Smith said the increase in COVID-19 case numbers across the county, state, and nation have made it necessary to “wait until a safer time.”  She said rehearsals were scheduled to begin this week, but she “cannot in good conscience proceed at this point.”

The historical drama was scheduled to play at Unity Theatre February 4-21.

Revnell-Smith said the show will “definitely be the next show produced,” but is unsure of when that might be.  She said, as the performance is already cast and costumes have been designed, the show will be ready to go as soon as rehearsals can be held safely.

The production is a Main Stage show, which will allow for social distancing for in-person attendees.  Revnell-Smith said she has obtained the digital rights for the production, and an online showing will be provided through ShowTix for those unable to attend in person.
