JOBLESS RATE FOR WASHINGTON CO., AREA COUNTIES DROPS IN DECEMBER

  

Unemployment numbers in Washington County dropped during the final month of 2020.

According to data from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Washington County’s jobless rate fell to 6.1 percent in December from 6.7 percent in November.

Washington County’s workforce in December was 15,283, with 928 unemployed.  November’s labor force was 15,271, with 1,016 jobless.  In December of 2019, the county had an unemployment rate of 3 percent, with a workforce of 15,304 and 452 out of work.

The state’s unemployment rate fell to 7.2 percent in December from 8.1 percent in November.

The jobless rates for surrounding counties also dropped in December:

  • Austin County – 6.7 percent, down from 7.4 percent.
  • Brazos County – 4.9 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
  • Burleson County – 6.1 percent, down from 6.8 percent in December.
  • Fayette County – 5.3 percent, down from 5.9 percent.
  • Grimes County – 8.3 percent, down from 9.3 percent.
  • Lee County – 4.5 percent, down from 5.1 percent.
  • Waller County – 8 percent, down from 8.9 percent in December.
