BURTON GRADES 7-12 GOING REMOTE UNTIL FEBRUARY 8TH AFTER COVID-19 EXPOSURES
Students at Burton Junior High and Burton High School will begin remote instruction starting tomorrow (Thursday) due to multiple COVID-19 exposures to staff and students.
In a letter sent to parents this (Wednesday) afternoon, Burton High School Principal Matt Wamble said all 7th through 12th graders will remain remote until Monday, February 8th. Lessons will continue using student Chromebooks as staff will report back to campus after all high school building areas have been deep cleaned.
Pre-K through 6th graders will continue on-campus instruction at Burton Elementary School as normal. All buses will run as scheduled, and breakfast and lunch will be served.
All Burton High School games have been postponed, and Burton Junior High games have been cancelled.
According to Burton ISD Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy, the school district is still working through contact tracing to determine how many students and staff members tested positive or came into close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case.
Im sure the decision was hard for everyone involved with deciding to shut Jr High and High School down. I personally feel that we need to stop living under a rock and letting this virus run our lives and our children’s ability to learn in a classroom environment! Everybody wants to bash little ol Burton for their choice, yet NOBODY said anything when Brenham continued full operations last semester due to being in the playoffs SMH!
Now, my tin foil hat is in the shop for repair, and I might be reading between the lines here, but, for all of you so terrified that everyone in Burton is suddenly home deathly sick, I don’t see here where they say that it’s closed because people are sick. They are closed because of CONTACT TRACING. In other words, even though they are not showing symptoms, or testing positive, everyone is being told to quarantine because they may or may not have been around someone who may or may not have tested positive/actually been sick at some point in the last couple of weeks. Or ten days. We aren’t really sure what daily count we should use….. But guess what, folks. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU has probably unknowingly been around someone who
So really, if we are going by those standards, every person in the US should never leave their house again. Or the world. (We’ve tried that. And – shockingly – people still got sick and some even died.) Do y’all really believe you have been living in a germ-free world until this past year?! Let’s be honest – how many of you have sent your kid to school after dosing them with Tylenol so the fever doesn’t register right away, and you can get some hours in at the office before the school calls and tells you your kid is sick? How many others did your kid infect that day until you came and picked them up? How many of you sent your kids to school sniffling and coughing and sneezing, telling them it’s just a cold you’re fine go to school? And how many got “just a cold” because your germy kid went to school? And – how many immunocompromised kids and adults were affected because of said sneezing, sniffly, coughing kid? This world has been spreading germs and viruses around since the dawn of time. And now, you can’t be allowed out because you MIGHT have been around someone who MIGHT have “tested positive”?! When did we lose all common sense?! Wash your hands. Wear a mask if the place you’re going requires it. Stay out of people’s bubble. Use a handkerchief when you sneeze (remember those things?); and of COURSE if you’re immunocompromised take extra precautions (just like you probably always did before anyway). But shut down (HALF) of a school and banish (HALF) the population? This makes zero common sense. Logic has gone out the window. We are losing our collective minds.
I am truly disappointed in the decision Burton ISD hastily made that Jr and senior high students will go “remote” due to Covid exposure. We know that many of the elementary students have older siblings that could possibly spread the virus to them. Burton students share the same library, cafeteria, buses and some coaches.
What a shame that you are putting so many in danger.
Teachers, would you prefer sitting home today with a cup of coffee, wearing your comfy Pjs and teaching remote OR get up, dress warmly head to school and face your elementary students with thoughts in your heart and head—-is this worth it? Don’t answer this question teachers because I know you will receive a back lash from administrators if you do. Pretend to be okay with this unfair decision.
The elementary teachers, staff and students are the true heroes. Hats off to you for “showing up today” even tho you know that people with Covid can still spread the virus even if they don’t have symptoms. God bless you.
Praying that the virus doesn’t spread like wildfire. If it does —then let the people making th decision teach for an extended time in those classrooms.

Wow! I’m not sure what intelligent member of the administration staff at Burton ISD made this call but you should be ashamed of yourself. What a slap in the face to your elementary students, teachers and staff. Everyone in this district shares the same hallways, buildings, cafeteria, gym, band hall, buses.. and the list goes on. They are knowingly putting everyone at risk. If you are questioning my validity then call the school. I guarantee the elementary has quite a few staff and students out due to positive covid results or covid exposures. My child will not attend school because of this ridiculous decision.
Huge THANK YOU to all of the Elementary staff and teachers who are putting themselves at risk. You are the real hero’s here.
