BRENHAM, BURTON SPELLING BEE WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Brenham and Burton schools have announced the winners of their campus spelling bees.
This year, spelling bee champions were named at each school, and no in-person spelling bee will be held to determine the champion of Washington County in order to protect students from COVID-19 exposure.
- Alton Elementary School: Champion – Corbin Brooks; Alternate – Will Hefferly
- Brenham Elementary School: Champion – Christopher Asencio; Alternate – Katelyn Galle
- Krause Elementary School: Champion – Daniel Rivera; Alternate – Bryn DeLeon
- Brenham Middle School: Champion – Zakirah Anderson; Alternate – Laila Smith
- Brenham Junior High School: Champion – Levi Dupont; Alternate – Noble Pharaon
- Citadel Christian School: Champion – Alex Vaz; Alternate – Isabel Vaz
- Burton Elementary School: Champion – Mason Helton; Alternate – Aaron Buchanan
Burton Junior High School was unable to participate in this year’s spelling bee. According to High School Principal Matt Wamble, several students who were set to participate in the junior high school spelling bee had to quarantine.
According to Sarah Cook, Brenham ISD Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability, the Zone 9 Regional Bee will be an online spelling test provided by Scripps National Spelling Bee, in which the students will type their spellings. The regional bee will take place during the school day with the campus spelling bee coach on Wednesday, February 10th. The speller with the highest overall score will be the Zone 9 Spelling Champion.
