AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS JOINING BRENHAM ISD’S RAPID COVID-19 TESTING PROGRAM

Brenham ISD has opened up its free rapid COVID-19 testing program to other area school districts.

Brenham ISD COVID-19 Response Leader Jamie Woodall has reached out to neighboring school districts offering their students and staff the opportunity to be tested for COVID-19 in Brenham.  At this time, Burton and Navasota ISDs have enrolled into the program, and can begin testing immediately.

Woodall said the district has received more COVID-19 tests than are being used just within Brenham ISD, so it is allowing other school districts to participate in the program.

So far, a little over 300 students and staff in Brenham ISD have been tested through the rapid testing program, but the district received over 3,000 tests just in January.  Woodall said the district will receive more tests once it reaches 50 percent of its supply.

Woodall said the district has enough appointment slots available after its own students and staff get tested to be able to offer tests to other districts.

Testing is offered by appointment only at the Brenham Community Education Building at 1301 South Market Street.  Consent for testing is required, and parents or legal guardians must consent for students under the age of 18 to be tested.

Woodall said the enrollment process for other school districts involves identifying contacts within them to send information to if any changes are made to the testing program.  The district is also taking steps to make sure the test results from other school districts are kept separate from Brenham ISD’s.

Test results will be made available through the contact information provided upon registering for the program.  Results will be sent by text message and email within 24 hours of the test.

As of this (Wednesday) morning, according to Brenham ISD’s COVID-19 dashboard, 223 students and staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, dating back to August 25th.  There are 36 active cases within the district.
