The Brenham Parks and Recreation Advisory Board received an update on the Brenham Family Park Design at their Wednesday noon meeting.  Public Works Director Dane Rau said that phase 1A of the project is set to begin construction in August of this year.  It is expected to take just over 2 years to complete.  The Family Park will be constructed south of the Baker-Katz development near the Highway 290-Chappell Hill Street intersection.  Rau said that the project is still in the design phase, but the initial 32 acres will contain concrete walking and bike paths, with interconnecting dirt paths, lake development, and infrastructure.  City staff have been working on the archeological and environmental studies, and they have been completed on the site.

JC Robinson of the Brenham Pickleball Association made a presentation to the board about the growth and popularity of Pickleball.  He stated that Pickleball has seen a rapid increase in popularity in the past few years and the group would like to host tournaments in Brenham.  The only thing that is lacking is a Pickleball Complex.  He asked the board to consider building a complex, preferably adjacent to the current Pickleball courts at Jackson Street Park.

The board also heard an update of projects, funded by the Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC), going on in various parks in the city.  They were also presented with a list of projects to consider for the coming year.  It is predicted that that BCDC funding will allow for only half of projects identified on the list.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board welcomed two new members.  Dr. Tina Henderson and Dusty Robinson will be joining the board.  They also named Bill Betts to remain as the chairperson of the group, and elected Ginger Bosse as vice-chair.
