NO. 17 BLINNS SUFFERS ONE-POINT LOSS TO TYLER, 66-65
Buccaneers outscored Apaches 37-34 in second half
TYLER, Texas — The No. 17 Blinn College men’s basketball outscored Tyler Junior College in the second half of Wednesday night’s game, but the Apaches were able to claim a one-point win, 66-65.
With the loss, the Buccaneers now hold a 5-2 overall and conference record.
“It was one of those games where we played hard and fought, and Tyler played hard and fought,” head coach Scott Schumacher said. “Tyler just had one more point than we did when the buzzer went off.”
Davion Coleman led Blinn’s offense with 16 points, Tyler Washington scored 15, and Bonke Maring tallied 14.
Tyler held a 32-28 lead at the halfway mark, but Blinn came back to outscore the Apaches in the second half. The Buccaneers scored 37 points and held the Apaches to 34 in the final half, but came up just one point short. With less than two minutes to go, the Buccaneers led by five. However, Tyler cut their lead down to one in the final seconds. Blinn came up with a crucial rebound with 27 seconds on the clock, but a traveling violation was immediately called. Tyler shot a 2-pointer to take a 66-65 lead and the Buccaneers missed their final shot at the buzzer for the Apaches to seal the victory.
