BUC BASEBALL SWEEPS ALVIN IN CONFERENCE OPENER, 6-0 10-2

Dylan Theut and Patrick Hail give up just three hits in shutout win

 

ALVIN, Texas — The Blinn College baseball team used a combination of stellar offense and strong defense to sweep Alvin Community College, 6-0 and 10-2, to open conference play Saturday.

With the pair of wins, the Buccaneers improved their overall record to 7-1 and conference record to 2-0.

“They were a complete team today,” head coach Harvey McIntyre said. “Dylan Theut and Evan Aschenbeck set the tone early on the mound and did a great job of executing a pitch plan. The difference today was that our hitter got in the box and made things happen with some very quality and productive at-bats.”

Blinn 6 – Alvin 0 

Theut and Patrick Hail combined for 11 strikeouts to lift Blinn to a 6-0 shutout win to open the doubleheader.

Theut pitched the first 3 2/3 innings for the Buccaneers and only surrendered one hit, while striking out seven. Patrick Hail pitched 3 1/3 innings, and only gave up two hits and struck out four.

Jett Garcia and Preston Hoffart led the offense with two RBIs each, while Brandon Williams drove in one run and scored one run. Westley Schields and Tyler Russell each had two hits and scored one run, while Hoffart, Nick Wolff, and Jack Schell scored one run apiece.

Williams and Russell kicked things off for the Buccaneers in the second inning with a single and double, respectively. Then, Garcia unloaded the bases with a triple for the Buccaneers to lead 2-0.

Blinn extended its lead to 5-0 in the third inning after Hoffart hit a one-run double, Williams hit a one-run single and Hoffart scored on a passed ball.

Blinn scored the final run of the game in the fourth inning when Hoffart drew a walk with the bases loaded.

The Buccaneers tossed four more lights-out innings for the win.

Blinn 10 – Alvin 2 

The Buccaneers used 12 hits to help earn a 10-2 victory over Alvin to conclude the doubleheader.

Kam Kelton led Blinn with three RBIS, while Jonathan Lugo and Schell each had two RBIs. In addition, Hoffart, Garcia and Williams each scored two runs in the win.

Aschenbeck earned the win on the mound for the Buccaneers, only surrendering one run on two hits, while striking out six, in five innings.

Blinn set the tone early with six runs in the second inning after Lugo hit a two-run single, and Kelton and Schell each hit two-run doubles.

Alvin scored one run in the second inning, but Blinn answered back with one of their own when Williams led off the top of the third inning with a solo home run.

The Buccaneers extended their lead to 10-1 with three runs in the fourth inning as Kelton hit a one-run single, and Hoffart hit a one-run triple and then scored on an error.

Alvin scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Next, the Buccaneers will return home to play a non-conference game against Spartan Academy at Leroy Dreyer Field on Monday, March 8, at 2 p.m.
