UNITY THEATRE RESCHEDULES ‘BEN BUTLER’ FOR APRIL 29-MAY 16

Unity Theatre in Brenham is returning to the stage next month.

The theatre has announced that the production of Ben Butler by Richard Strand, postponed from February due to COVID-19, is now scheduled for April 29th through May 16th.

The historical and comedic drama takes place in the middle of the Civil War, 1861 at Virginia’s Union-held Fort Monroe under the command of General Benjamin Butler.  When three escaped slaves show up seeking sanctuary, General Butler is faced with a moral dilemma – follow the letter of the law and return the escapees back to the Confederacy, or make a game-changing move that could alter the course of US history.

Ben Butler is a Main Stage production being presented with strict limited seating in order to accommodate social distancing guidelines.  Masks will be required for all people at the theatre.

Reservations will be available to Circle members on April 5th and to Subscribers on April 12th.  Tickets will go on sale to the public on April 19th.  For tickets or more information, contact the box office at 979-830-8358.

Unity Theatre has also announced schedule changes for the other shows planned this season.

The Studio Series production of The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey will be moved to the fall of the 2021-2022 season.

Barefoot in the Park, originally scheduled to play on the Main Stage in May, will instead open the new season in September.  In its place, Unity Theatre will present the mystery thriller The Tangled Skirt by Steve Braunstein.  The Studio Series production will play for two weeks on the Main Stage from June 17-27.

Subscribers can use any combination of their tickets to see Ben Butler and The Tangled Skirt.  As part of the Forever Subscription, any unused 2020-2021 season subscription tickets will carry over for subscribers’ use next season and beyond.
