#12 BUC VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS TYLER
Lixai Perez Velez leads Buccaneers’ defense with 17 digs
BRENHAM, Texas — The No. 12 Blinn College volleyball team came up with a sweep over Tyler Junior College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21), in the Kruse Center Monday.
With the win, the Buccaneers are now 16-1 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
“I am really proud of the girls and I thought they played hard, listened to the adjustments we were making, and it showed in our performance,” head coach Terry Gamble said. “This is a great group of young ladies, and if we keep working hard and getting better, we have the chance to be pretty good.”
Lixai Perez Velez led Blinn’s defense with 17 digs, while Jayde Shelton led the Buccaneers with six block assists and 14 kills. Loren Scott came up with 35 assists to lead the Buccaneers. In addition, Chard’e Vanzandt recorded nine kills and one block assist in the win.
The Buccaneers pulled ahead in the match 2-0 after defeating Tyler, 25-19, in the first two sets. Blinn recorded its fourth straight sweep by taking down Tyler, 25-21, in the third set.
Next, the Buccaneers will compete in their final non-conference game of the season against Our Lady of the Lake University JV on Tuesday, March 16, at 7 p.m. on the road.
