#19 BUC BASEBALL FALLS TO TEMPLE

Jett Garcia drives in two runs to lead Bucs’ offense

BRENHAM, Texas — The No. 19 Blinn College baseball team fell to Temple College in a non-conference game, 10-5, at Leroy Dreyer Field Saturday.

“Not a lot of positives from today on a day where we needed to make some strides and carry Saturday into Monday,” head coach Harvey McIntyre said. “We will get back to work and be ready to be much better in every phase of the game on Wednesday against Coastal Bend.”

With the loss, the Buccaneers are now 10-3 overall.

Jett Garcia led the offense with a home run for two RBIs. Kam Kelton went 2-for-3 and drove in one run, and Tyler Russell and Brandon Williams each drove in one run.

Jake Olson started the game for the Buccaneers and surrendered just two runs on two hits in 2 1/3 innings. Eric Oakes pitched a scoreless 2/3 inning, while Hudson Forrest surrendered only one run in 2/3 innings and Blane Romero only allowed one run in the final inning of the game.

Blinn got off to a great start and held a 4-0 lead moving into the third inning. The Buccaneers scored their first run when Williams was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. They extended their lead by scoring three runs in the second inning. After Graden Emmons led off with a single, Garcia hit a two-run blast to pull Blinn ahead 3-0. Caleb Schulz kept things rolling with a walk and Kelton hit a double for him to score.

Temple scored two runs in the third inning to cut Blinn’s lead in half, but the Buccaneers got one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kelton scored on Russell’s sacrifice fly.

Temple rallied for five runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead for good. The Leopards scored two runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 9-5, and scored their final run in the ninth inning for the 10-5 win.

Next, the Buccaneers will resume conference play with a doubleheader against Coastal Bend College on Wednesday, March 17, starting at 2 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field.
