Essence Clerkley tallies season-high 10 block assists
CORSICANA, Texas — The No. 12 Blinn College volleyball team upset No. 6 Navarro College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-13), on the road Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Buccaneers improve their overall record to 19-1 and conference record to 10-1.
“I am proud of the girls,” head coach Terry Gamble said. “They played hard and focused the entire match. Today was a total team win, and I thought our blocking and defense was good today.”
Emily Smajstrla led the Buccaneers with 16 digs, Loren Scott and Lixai Perez Velez each put up 13, and Kyndal Coufal came up with 13. Essence Clerkley put up a season-high 10 block assists to lead Blinn and Scott followed with five.
Jayde Shelton led the offense with 12 kills, while Chard’e Vanzandt racked up nine, and Clerkley had seven. Scott led the Buccaneers with 24 assists and three aces.
The Buccaneers came up with a 25-19 win to open the match. Then, they pulled ahead in 2-0 in the match after defeating Navarro, 25-23, in the second set. The Buccaneers claimed the sweep with a 25-13 victory in the third set.
Next, the Buccaneers will compete against Coastal Bend College in the final home game of the season on Monday, March 22, at 6 p.m. in the Kruse Center. The game will feature Sophomore Day.
