BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL OKs STRATEGIC FACILITY PLAN

  

The City of Brenham will soon begin work on a strategic facility plan.

The Brenham City Council at its meeting this (Thursday) afternoon approved a professional services agreement with Sledge Engineering, LLC for $47,000 to create a strategic plan.  The plan will provide short-term and long-term recommendations for 38 city facilities, consisting of approximately 250,000 square feet, and will assess key aspects of them so any issues or concerns can be better accounted for.

Public Works Director Dane Rau said this plan will help the city’s budget team be more proactive rather than reactive when evaluating infrastructure.

 

The work will take approximately six months, and will require city staff to assist with walkthroughs, provide blueprints of facilities, and provide master plans of facilities if applicable.

Also at today’s meeting, the council tabled action on a lease agreement with Aviators Plus, LLC, as well as an amendment to the city’s existing agreement with Aviators Plus to authorize it to operate as a Fixed Base Operator at the Brenham Municipal Airport.

Councilmember Adonna Saunders had several questions about the agreement to lease and occupy the terminal building and restaurant at the airport.  She said she felt the $2,500 annual rent and $2,000 annual donation for airport enhancements and landscaping was “ludicrous” and “super inexpensive.”  Assistant City Manager of Public Services and Utilities Donald Reese said the prior occupant of the terminal building paid $50 a month, and explained the city wanted to get a tenant established so it could avoid having a “revolving” terminal building or restaurant.

Councilmembers also:

• Met in executive session to discuss utility competitive matters, concerning the city’s gas sales contract with West Texas Gas, Inc. No action was taken.
• Approved an assignment of lease and memorandum of understanding regarding the Simon Theater from Simon Theater Master Tenant, LLC to Brenham Main Street Historical Preservation, Inc.
• Held a workshop to discuss and review the Fiscal Year 2019-20 fourth quarter financial report.
• Approved a fitness center services agreement between the city and American Specialty Health Fitness, Inc. related to the Silver and Fit program at the Blue Bell Aquatic Center.
• Approved a pair of ordinances on first reading, one for the placement of a stop sign on Vineyard Pass at its intersection with Highway 36 North, and the other for a stop sign on Ava Drive at its intersection with Old Masonic Road.
• Accepted the audit from Seidel Schroeder for Fiscal Year 2020.
