TEXAS INDEPENDENCE RELAY TO FINISH SUNDAY IN BRENHAM
Runners in the Texas Independence Relay will finish the race Sunday at Blue Bell Creameries in Brenham. The race has traditionally been between Gonzales, the site of the first battle in the Texas revolution, and Houston. This year, the location of the end of the relay race has moved, due to the pandemic, to Blue Bell in Brenham. The new route will take runners through Shiner, Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar, La Grange, Fayetteville, New Ulm, Industry, Bellville and Chappell Hill.
Race Director Jay Hilscher said that choosing Brenham as the finish location was an easy choice. Washington County is where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed at Washington on the Brazos.
Around 1000 runners will be participating in the race with each team made up of a maximum of 12. The final legs of the race will be from the intersection of Sycamore Street and Main Street in Chappell Hill to the intersection of Old Chappell Hill Road and Mustang Road near Brenham, with the finish line at Blue Bell Creameries.
