No. 23 Blinn women finish regular season with win at Panola, 73-57  

Buccaneers total 14 3-pointers in win  

CARTHAGE, Texas — The No. 23 Blinn College women’s basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 73-57 win over Panola College on the road Saturday.

The Buccaneers finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-5, and second in the region with a 13-3 conference record. Next, Blinn will compete in the Region XIV tournament, April 7-10, in Jacksonville, Texas.

“We were very resilient tonight and were down 23-12 in the first quarter to a very good team on the road,” head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “I can’t say enough about our team’s toughness this year, and to finish second in Region XIV is not easy to do. For this class to finish second in back-to-back seasons makes them very special.”

The Buccaneers totaled 14 3-pointers as Keaundra Eddings led the way with six shots from downtown and 20 points. Hailey Atwood was next with 12 points, while Jessica Soders and Alex Bowman each chipped in nine, and Deja Adrian scored eight.

Panola opened the game with a 23-12 lead, but the Buccaneers came back to lead 34-20 at the break. Blinn extended its lead to 56-47 in the third quarter before defeating Panola, 73-57.

 

Buccaneer men fall to Panola to conclude regular season, 88-78

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College men’s basketball team fell to Panola College, 88-78, to conclude the regular season in the Kruse Center Saturday.

With the loss, the Buccaneers concluded the regular season with a 10-10 overall record and 8-10 conference record. Next, Blinn will compete in the Region XIV tournament, April 6-10, in Jacksonville.

Prior to today’s game, the Buccaneers celebrated Sophomore Day.

“We didn’t get the results we wanted, but I thought our guys competed and played really hard,” head coach Scott Schumacher said. “I thought we had a chance, but had a few ill-advised shots at the wrong time and things didn’t go our way. Overall, I am really proud of the guys and how they played the whole year.”

Bonke Maring led Blinn with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Calvin Carpenter scored 16 points, Tyler Washington recorded 15, Davion Coleman scored 13, and Austin Galuppo put up 10, while Washington put up eight rebounds.

Blinn and Panola played a close first half, but the Ponies grabbed a 45-44 lead at halftime. The Ponies built their lead in the second half to win 88-78.
