INDEPENDENCE FIRE & ICE COOK-OFF THIS WEEKEND

The coals will come alive this weekend in Independence at the Fire and Ice Cook-off.

Teams will meet tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) on the Independence town square to determine who makes the best barbecue, jackpot beans and margaritas.

Mark Rosenbaum, board member for Independence Community Events, says the event supports the restoration of the old school house.

Turn-in time for the steak shoot-out and margarita contests is tonight at 8 p.m.  Judging for the chef’s choice is tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by chicken at noon, pork ribs at 2 p.m., and brisket at 4 p.m.

The steak shoot-out has a $1,000 cash prize for first place, sponsored by DI Hydraulic Hoses and DI Precision Rifles.  Second place is $500, sponsored by Box J Quarter Horses, and third place is $250, sponsored by Vongontard Mini Hereford Ranch.

Team registration is $125.  For more information, visit the Independence Community Events Facebook page, or call 979-836-4211 or 979-277-5857.
