The manhunt for a former Texas sheriff’s deputy suspected in the fatal shooting of three people in Austin has ended in Manor.

Authorities arrested 41-year-old Stephen Broderick without incident along a rural road around 7:30 a.m., Monday.  Manor Police say Broderick had a pistol in his waistband when taken into custody.

Authorities haven’t released the identities of those killed, but the superintendent of the Elgin Independent School District said the victims included a current and former student at their schools.

Superintendent Jodi Duron identified the two as Alyssa Broderick, who Duron said withdrew from the district last fall, and Willie Simmons III, a senior at Elgin High School.

Duron said Broderick was an “excellent student and athlete” who was on the basketball team. Simmons was the football team captain and had been recently recruited to play at the University of North Texas.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said in a statement that Broderick had been arrested for sexual assault of a child last June and was released on $50,000 bond.
