NAVASOTA ISD TO LIFT MASK RESTRICTION AFTER SUMMER SCHOOL

The Navasota ISD school board has voted to allow masks to be optional beginning July 1st.

Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick says the mask mandate will stay in place through the end of summer school.

Following the lifting of the statewide mask mandate, the Governor and Texas Education Agency left mask policies up to individual school districts. In March, Navasota ISD voted to keep the mask policy in place for the remainder of the school year.

Musick says the number of cases in Navasota ISD has remained below the state and national averages, despite a spike right before Christmas.

Musick says the decision to lift the mask mandate comes from those low numbers and how the vaccine rollout is going.

Social distancing and contact tracing protocols will remain in place.
