RETIRED LUBBOCK FIRE CHIEF NAMED BRENHAM’S INTERIM CHIEF

Rhea Cooper

The City of Brenham has named an interim fire chief.

During his administrative report at Thursday’s Brenham City Council meeting, City Manager James Fisher introduced retired Lubbock Fire Chief Rhea Cooper as the new interim chief.  Cooper will serve in the position as the city seeks to find a full-time fire chief, after former chief Ricky Boeker was fired on April 7th.

Cooper said he hopes to make the city’s transition to new leadership less difficult.

Cooper retired from the Lubbock Fire Department in 2009 after serving in the department for over 31 years.  Most recently, he worked with the Texas A&M Forest Service for six years as an assistant chief, where he assisted during wildfire events across Texas and the nation.  During his time there, he served on the Lone Star State Incident Management Team.  He was also a training officer for a short time in the Morgan’s Point Resort Fire Department.

Cooper currently lives in Temple with his wife, Tracey, who is the Executive Director of Nursing at Temple College.  They have three adult children who live in the Pflugerville area.

  1. Why couldn’t a qualified local person get this job? Fisher is a great fisherman

    1. There very well may be someone qualified within the ranks. However, it is becoming very clear that the “good ol boy” system is out-and that is a good thing in my opinion.

  2. well I guess we can all sleep easy now not having to worry about all those wildfires in our county oh wait we never had any well better safe than sorry I suppose

  3. Glad to see that an interim chief is in place. Now the question is…….why is Tom D. Whitehead not posting the second open records request on the firing of Ricky Boeker that he made? He did not have a problem posting the stuff that made the City Manager look bad-why not post all of this too? What is he hiding? Isn’t that called censorship? Aren’t we all entitled to know what the other request revealed? I guess I could make the request myself, but I do not have a platform to post it to for all to see.
So, as I have said before, there is way more to this story than the public knows, and now Mr. Whitehead knows some of it too and is not posting it. Ask yourself why?

    1. Because we have never received the rest of the freedom of information request from the City. Still waiting….after over a month!

      1. Transparency is still lacking with Mr. Fisher and the City of Brenham.

      2. Yes Big Brother, you can certainly submit a request yourself instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you. And I’m no expert on FOIA requests but I’m pretty sure the government agency you’re requesting the information from has only 10 days to respond. Sounds like the next step is a complaint with the AG’s office.

  4. Wow, That seemed to be handed quickly. It almost appears as if that was planned in advance. Watch your six Rhea.
