MAY SALES TAX ALLOCATIONS SHOW LARGE INCREASE FROM 2020

  

All local entities reported sizable increases in sales and tax distributions in May, compared to this time last year.

Washington County’s rebate in May was $338,210, a 32.39 percent increase from last May’s payment of $255,450.  Through 2021 so far, the county has received $1,367,414, up 9.43 percent from last year’s payment-to-date of $1,249,513.

Brenham’s May rebate totaled $756,719, 25.01 percent up from last May when the city received $605,326.  So far this year, the city has received $3,096,972, compared to the $2,830,136 it received through this point last year, a 9.42 percent increase.

Burton received $9,818 in May, a jump of 32.72 percent from when the city received $7,397 last May.  Burton’s receipts through May 2021 total $36,588, up 4.82 percent from a year ago, when it had received $34,903 to date.

Statewide, Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that $1.06 billion was paid out in local sales tax allocations in May, up 28.4 percent from last May and up 5.7 percent for the year to date.
