ONE KILLED IN TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT NEAR HEMPSTEAD

A Dallas man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident near Hempstead.

DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard reports the collision occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 6, about one mile outside of the city.

According to Sgt. Woodard, a 2014 Honda Accord was travelling in the left lane of the highway behind a 2016 Ford F-450, when the truck slowed down due to traffic congestion.

Sgt. Woodard said the Honda did not slow down and collided with the Ford after attempting to avoid impact by veering into the right lane.  The collision sent the truck into the center median, and the driver of the Honda, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the Honda, 25-year-old Christopher Sims of Dallas, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The condition of the truck driver, 69-year-old Lester Brown, Jr. of Houston, was unknown.
