A familiar face is returning to Brenham ISD as its new director of information technology.

After an executive session Monday night, the Brenham School Board approved the hiring of Rodney Leer, who will assume the new leadership role beginning early this summer.  Leer is filling the vacancy created by Kim Strauss, who is retiring at the end of June.

Leer previously worked for Brenham ISD for a total of 17 years, including seven years as director of information technology, five years as assistant director of information technology/network engineer, and five years as network specialist.

Leer left Brenham ISD in 2013 to become the executive director for technology in Magnolia ISD, where he served until retirement in 2020.  He has also worked at Pasadena ISD and Dickinson ISD as a teacher.

Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said Leer impressed the hiring committee with “his experience, knowledge of technology networking, building a robust broadband system, and vision of future educational technologies.”

Leer called it “an unbelievable privilege” to get a second opportunity to work for Brenham ISD, and said he is looking forward to serving the district’s staff and students.
