BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER AGREEMENT FOR WARD REDISTRICTING SERVICES

The Brenham City Council will take up talks on potentially redistricting the city’s four wards at its meeting today (Thursday), the first meeting with a newly adjusted start time of 3:30 p.m.

The council will consider an engagement agreement between the city and Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta, LLP related to redistricting services for the city.

City Secretary Jeana Bellinger said there may be a need to adjust the boundary lines of the city’s wards as the city’s population grows, as there can be no more than a 10 percent difference in population between the least and most populated wards.

According to the agenda packet for the meeting, the redistricting process begins when census data is received by the federal government.  The process will involve public hearings and work sessions, with the final redistricting plan being approved by city council by ordinance.  The city expects to receive state population data from the Census Bureau by August 16th.

Also at today’s meeting, the council will:

  • Recognize three police department promotions to corporal: Andrea Guerra, Alex Saenz and Zackary Greig.
  • Proclaim the 75th anniversary of James F. Dillon VFW Post 7104.
  • Act upon a $20,000 donation from the Fortnightly Club for the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library. The money was raised through fundraising efforts that included book sales and donations from the community.
  • Consider resolutions authorizing the acceptance of infrastructure improvements in Phase 1 of the Liberty Village subdivision and Phase 4 of the Overlook Estates subdivision.
  • Act upon a resolution formally amending the commencement time for regular city council meetings.
  • Consider a noise variance request from RSR Entertainment for a Juneteenth Block Parky to be held June 19th at Mundy’s Hideout at 1609 East Alamo Street.

The council will meet this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
