The Faith Mission Women Infants and Children (WIC) program has launched a new initiative to help feed families for the summer.

The “Kid’s Café,” in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, will provide weekly supplies of breakfasts and lunches to children under the age of 18 from now through August 6th.

Lea Hearnsberger, clinical director of the WIC program, says this feeding program provides another option for parents to provide meals for their children, who are now out of school for the summer months.

Families can pick up meals once a week between Monday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Faith Mission Health and Service Center at 100 South Chappell Hill Street, behind the WIC office.

Approximately 150 meals will be distributed each week on a first come, first serve basis.  The Faith Mission Sensational Summer SMART Kids program, including youth ages 10-12, will serve as volunteers to distribute food items on Mondays.

Children do not need to be present in order to receive meals, as long as recipients provide identification showing the child’s birth date.

For more information, call the WIC office at 979-836-1913.
