FREE FISHING DAY IN TEXAS SATURDAY

Anglers of all ages can fish for free this Saturday, as it is Free Fishing Day in Texas.

The free fishing event takes place on the first Saturday in June each year, and allows Texans to fish on any public body of water in the state without a fishing license.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Director Craig Bonds says Free Fishing Day is “a wonderful opportunity for anglers to share their knowledge, skills, equipment, and love for fishing with a new participant.”

Bonds also says purchasing a fishing license is an act of conservation, and helps support fisheries science and management.  All proceeds from fishing license fees go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for on-the-ground conservation efforts like fish stocking.

Fishing in federal waters still requires a license for the private recreational angler red snapper season.
