BRENHAM FLORICULTURIST ELLEN ELLISON DIES
A longtime businesswoman in Brenham and prominent figure in the floriculture industry has died.
Ellen Ellison died Friday at the age of 87.
Ellison and her husband, Jim, owned and operated The Mad Hut, The Flower Pot, Ellison’s Florist and Gift Shop, and Ellison’s Greenhouses.
Ellison was a teacher in her early career and became the first female president of Brenham ISD.
After retiring, Ellison continued to champion the floriculture industry, culminating in the establishment of the Ellen and Jim Ellison Chair in International Floriculture at Texas A&M University.
In 2019, the two were inducted into the Society of American Florists Hall of Fame. In 2002, she was inducted into the TAMU Horticulture Hall of Fame.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, June 16th at 2 p.m. at the Cowboy Church of Brenham. A reception will follow at Rockin’ Star Ranch.
