LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT DROPS IN MAY

  

 

The unemployment rate in Washington County dropped slightly during the month of May, as the county reported a 5.3% jobless rate.

The county’s jobless rate dropped 3-tenths of a percent, from 5.6% in April.

The county’s employment numbers rose from 14,341 in April to 14,399 last month, while, the civilian labor force inched upward from 15,199 in April to 15,201 in May.

A total of 858 people were unemployed in the county in April, and that number improved to 802 last month.

Washington County held an unemployment rate of 7.2% in May 2020 with 1,068 people out of work as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to affect businesses.

Statewide, the unemployment rate was 6.5%, down slightly from April’s rate of 6.7%.
