BURLESON CO. S.O. & SOMERVILLE P.D. INVESTIGATING ARSON AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

An investigation is underway into a break-in and case of arson at the Somerville Elementary School, early Monday morning.

According to Burleson County Chief Deputy John Pollock, someone broke into the school and vandalized numerous classrooms and started a fire in one of the rooms.

Somerville fire fighters were able to respond quickly, limiting the damage and avoiding damage to the rest of the building.

School Superintendent Karla Sparks says the vandalism led to damage to several SMART boards and desktop computers, while two administration building windows were broken.  Sparks says, however, there was no entry to the administration building.

Somerville Fire Chief Wayne Wilhelm says there was no structural damage to the exterior of the building.  Sparks says most of the damage occurred in the Life Skills classroom.

Pollock says the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office and the Somerville Police Department are investigating the case as a felony burglary and arson.
