ALLEN WEST TO CHALLENGE GOV. GREG ABBOTT IN REPUBLICAN PRIMARY
Outgoing Texas GOP chairman Allen West announced on Sunday that he will run for governor.
West joins former state Senator Don Huffines of Dallas in challenging Governor Greg Abbott in the Republican primary.
West, who is stepping down as chairman of the Texas Republican Party effective July 11th, has been critical of Abbott and other Republicans during his time in the position.
A retired Army officer, West represented Florida in Congress from 2011-2013.
Last month, former President Donald Trump endorsed Abbott for re-election. Democrats have not yet brought forth a candidate to challenge Abbott in 2022.
