The City of Brenham and Mercer Construction will close East Stone Street between Gun and Rod Road and Walnut Street.
The road will be closed each day during construction hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will reopen overnight. The closure will last through Friday, but the road will remain open if weather conditions do not allow work.
City officials say the road closure is needed to protect workers, as there is a narrow roadway and a blind hill in the work zone.
The road will be closed to “thru traffic” at Gun and Rod Road and Walnut Street, and a detour route will be set up. Residents who live within the closed area can access their homes at any time by slowly entering and exiting the work zone.
The detour route will be on Walnut Street, Hollis Drive, Glenda Boulevard and Gun and Rod Road to get traffic back on East Stone Street. The city will have numerous signs out displaying the detour route and alerting traffic going through the adjacent neighborhood.
