WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE ROOF REPLACEMENT FOR EMS STATION

Washington County Commissioners accepted a proposal to install a new roof at a Brenham EMS station at their meeting today (Tuesday).

The court voted to purchase the metal roof from J&A Roofing for $121,635 for EMS Station No. 2 on Highway 290.  The current shingle roof at the facility has sustained hail and ice damage.

Work crews will install 24 gauge standing seam metal roof panels with a 2-inch rib.  According to the proposal, the roof will be installed with an ice and water shield, and will be furnished with a five year labor warranty.

Facilities Manager Bobby Branham said there could be extra cost associated with the roof installation because of the way the EMS facility was built.

Branham said the county will not know what that additional cost may be until work begins.

Six price quotes were submitted for the project.  Branham said J&A’s proposal was not the lowest bid, but the lowest proposal did not include the type of metal roofing panel that the county was seeking.

County Judge John Durrenberger noted that insurance will cover roughly half of the roof replacement cost, because the current shingle roof is being replaced with a metal roof.

Also at today’s meeting, commissioners:

  • Issued requests for qualifications for professional janitorial services at the Washington County Expo during the month of the Washington County Fair. The deadline to submit qualifications is Monday, July 26th at 9 a.m.
  • Appointed Precinct Four Justice of the Peace William Kendall to the bail bond board, replacing retired Precinct Three Justice of the Peace Ken Tofel.
  • Approved a memorandum of understanding between Washington County and Brazos County for emergency alerting to the public. Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke said this allows Brazos County to send out messages, such as child abduction emergencies, through the Emergency Alert System for counties surrounding them.
  • Reappointed Brenham Mayor Milton Tate, Jr. to the Brazos Valley Council of Governments Board of Directors.
