REPORTS: UT & OU EXPLORING SEC MOVE
Numerous national outlets, including CBS, ESPN and Fox are reporting that the University of Texas and Oklahoma have both reached out to the SEC about joining that conference.
Citing "a high-ranking college official with knowledge of the situation," the Houston Chronicle first reported that the SEC could announce the additions of the Longhorns and Sooners "within a couple of weeks."
CBS Sports has confirmed that at least Texas has inquired with the SEC about admission into the nation's most prolific conference.
There are also reports now surfacing that there is mutual interest about having Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC.
Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork told the Houston Chronicle overnight, he is adamantly opposed to the plan. Bjork says A&M wants to be the only SEC program in the state, and left the Big 12 to be standalone and have their own identity.
“Being the only SEC program in the state of Texas is to our advantage and we are going to do everything that we can to really protect A&M,” said Bjork told the Chronicle, Wednesday afternoon.
Bjork said he and fellow SEC athletic directors had not discussed bringing Texas and Oklahoma into the conference.
This rumor was likely started and promoted by ESPN because they want to get out of the financial boondoggle known as the Longhorn Network. Won’t happen … there’s enough SEC schools that don’t want this and it’ll be blocked.
