WATERMELON RUN FOR THE FALLEN SATURDAY IN HEMPSTEAD
Hempstead will honor fallen service officers this Saturday at the 11th Watermelon Run for the Fallen.
The event is the nation’s largest 5K dedicated to recognizing the sacrifice of military members as a result of current conflicts.
The event will begin at 6 a.m. at the Hempstead High School football stadium, with activities including live music, skydivers and military displays.
The 5K will start at 8 a.m. on the track and end in downtown Hempstead at the memorial for Staff Sergeant Jeffery Lee Hartley, followed by more activities honoring fallen service members.
