SEN. KOLKHORST URGES PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN REDISTRICTING PROCESS

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst is asking the public to provide input as the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting begins discussions next week.

The committee will hold regional public input hearings from September 7-11 via Zoom.  The purpose of the hearings is to gather feedback on redistricting, with a focus on the 2020 census data and the upcoming legislative redistricting process.

Each decade, the Texas Legislature draws new district boundaries based on the U.S. Census.  Earlier this year, the committee held hearings prior to the release of the 2020 Census.  With census results now released, the committee again invites Texans to comment about the new districts that will be in place from 2022 to 2032.

Kolkhorst said the government depends on the public’s participation, and encourages the residents of Senate District 18 to testify so that they “have their voices heard.”

Residents can register to testify remotely via the Senate of Texas website.  A schedule of next week’s hearings, along with individual links to register for them, is available here.
